Thoughtful Thursday: Identify Your Anchors – What Keeps You Grounded During Change?
When life feels turbulent, like you’re caught in a storm of uncertainty, it’s easy to lose your sense of direction. In these moments, finding your anchors—the values, habits, or people that keep you grounded—is essential. Anchors provide stability and remind you of who you are, even when everything around you feels unsettled.
Today, let’s explore how identifying and relying on your anchors can help you navigate life quakes with resilience and clarity.
1. What Are Anchors?
Anchors are the steady, unshakable elements of your life that keep you grounded and focused. They can take many forms, such as:
Core Values: Beliefs like integrity, faith, or compassion.
Support Systems: Trusted friends, family, or mentors.
Healthy Habits: Practices like journaling, meditation, or exercise.
Faith or Spirituality: A connection to a higher power or deeper purpose.
Anchors remind you of your “why” and help you stay centered, no matter how chaotic things become.
2. How to Identify Your Anchors
Take a moment to reflect on times in your life when you’ve faced challenges. What gave you strength? What kept you going?
Action Step:
Write down three things that have consistently helped you feel grounded during tough times.
Reflect on why they’re important and how they support you.
Once you identify your anchors, think about how you can lean into them more intentionally during periods of change.
3. Nurturing Your Anchors
Just like a physical anchor needs maintenance to stay effective, your personal anchors require attention and care. For example:
If your anchor is a supportive friend, make time to connect regularly.
If journaling helps you stay centered, create a daily or weekly habit around it.
If faith is your anchor, dedicate time for prayer, meditation, or reflection.
By nurturing these anchors, you strengthen your ability to stay grounded, even in life’s storms.
My Story: Finding My Anchor in Faith
Psalm 94:17
During one of the most challenging seasons of my life, everything felt out of control. My career was in flux, relationships were strained, and my confidence was at an all-time low. I found myself constantly searching for answers but only feeling more lost.
One day, I opened my Bible to Psalm 94:17-19:
"Unless the Lord had given me help, I would soon have dwelt in the silence of death. When anxiety was great within me, your consolation brought me joy."
Those words became my anchor. They reminded me that even in uncertainty, I wasn’t alone. I began leaning into my faith more intentionally—through prayer, journaling, and reflecting on scripture. Slowly, I found the strength to take small, steady steps forward.
That experience taught me the power of anchoring myself in what truly matters. It’s a lesson I now share with my clients as they navigate their own life quakes.
