Story Saturday: How I Reclaimed My Focus After My Life Quake
Life quakes often arrive unannounced, shaking the very foundation of your world. They leave you questioning everything—your purpose, your direction, and your ability to move forward. I know this because I’ve been there. My own life quake challenged me to my core, but it also taught me some of the most valuable lessons about resilience, clarity, and the power of focus.
Today, I want to share my story of how I reclaimed my focus and rebuilt my life, one intentional step at a time.
The Breaking Point
A few years ago, my life hit a tipping point. I was juggling a demanding career, family responsibilities, and personal struggles. Then came an unexpected professional setback that left me reeling. Everything felt uncertain, and I couldn’t seem to find my footing.
For weeks, I stayed in a state of overwhelm, caught between wanting to fix everything at once and feeling paralyzed by the weight of it all. I told myself I was “busy,” but deep down, I knew I wasn’t making real progress.
The Turning Point
One evening, after a particularly difficult day, I sat down with a journal and a simple question: What truly matters right now?
I started writing and realized that my focus had been scattered across too many things—some of which weren’t even important to me. I decided to take control by prioritizing what truly aligned with my values and letting go of what didn’t.
I created three categories:
What I must address immediately.
What I want to build for the future.
What I need to release to make space for clarity.
This exercise was my first step toward reclaiming focus.
The Small Steps Forward
“Progress is Power.”
From that day, I committed to three simple actions:
Setting daily intentions: Each morning, I wrote down one priority to focus on that aligned with my larger goals.
Creating boundaries: I learned to say no to distractions, both external and internal, that pulled me away from my priorities.
Celebrating small wins: Every step forward, no matter how small, became a reason to celebrate.
As I started to rebuild my focus, I noticed a shift—not only in how I approached challenges but also in how I viewed myself. I was no longer reacting to life; I was intentionally creating a path forward.
The Outcome
Reclaiming my focus wasn’t a quick fix—it was a process. But it was a process that led to incredible growth. I rebuilt my career with greater alignment to my values, strengthened my relationships, and rediscovered my purpose.
Most importantly, I learned that focus isn’t about perfection; it’s about progress. It’s about showing up every day with intention, even when the path ahead feels unclear.
